Affiliate Marketing Niche Selection…

by Clint on June 5, 2009

Hello again, hope you all are having a good day! In continuing with my last article about keyword selection, I wanted to share with you some thoughts and resources for Affiliate Marketing Niche Selection. It is gonna be hard at first to find the right niche, but it is not impossible. As a matter of fact you may find that a niche is not really what you need.. Let me explain a little…

Back when I first started my affiliate marketing journey, I used to do the niche selection process by seeing something and saying oh that would be cool to sell online.. lol Oh my, that was indeed the wrong way to do this! We all learn right?

Today, I approach it from a couple of different perspectives. One being… “Is the product that I want to sell going to satisfy a problem for someone?”  Usually this falls under 3 general headings. I will explain general in a second. The 3 general headings are…

  • Money problems
  • People problems
  • Health problems

These 3 general Niche Topics are going to be the basis for the niche research. So inside of the general niche of Money lets say, there are many Niche topics like ‘make money’ and ‘get out of debt’, etc… For our research we don’t want to stop there though because this is not going to totally solve the problem.

The next step is to identify the micro niche that will satisfy or in our case provide a solution to our problem. Let’s go back to my two examples of ‘make money’ and ‘get out of debt’.  The focus of these topics is still a little too broad for us to select a product to generate a profit with. So let’s narrow it down a bit to ‘make money online using google’ or ‘get out of credit card debt’

Now we have some very specific Micro Niches that we can work with and find products that will satisfy the problems people face on a daily basis.

You just have to ask yourself a question when doing this… If I had money problems specifically credit card problems. “Would the niche topic satisfy my problem?” If it does answer it, then you probably have a winner.  Again, ‘get out of debt’ does not help you get out of credit card debt because we may be talking about mortgage debt, where ‘get out of credit card debt’ does.

It’s not too confusing if you take a minute to think about what we are really trying to accomplish online as an affiliate marketer. I hope I have provided some valuable insight today also.  If you want to further investigate this topic, may I suggest Stephen Pierce or Lynn Terry as other places to get information about affiliate marketing.

To Your Success,

Clint
